What do we own and owe?

Every holding in its own currency, its value over time, and who holds what, added up in the currency you choose.

The short answer

Net worth is one subtraction: everything you own, minus everything you owe. The list on one side is property, investments, cash and savings, pensions, crypto and anything else of value; the list on the other is mortgages, loans and credit cards. The figure matters less than its direction: whether it is higher than last month, and why.

Two things make it hard to keep by hand. The holdings change value at different speeds, so each needs its own history, not one overwritten number. And when more than one person holds them, in more than one currency, each person's share and the household's total are different figures that must agree.

The useful habit is small: once a month, update the value of each holding and let the history build. A year of those entries says more than any single figure.

How Valunto does it

  • Net worth lists every holding. Assets are property, investments, cash and savings, pensions, crypto and anything else of value; debts are mortgages, loans, credit cards and others.
  • Each holding keeps its own currency and a history of dated values. The total shows all of them in the currency you choose.
  • One screen updates the value of every holding at once; each value you change is kept as a dated entry, so the history builds over time.
  • The history shows month by month, by member or by category. Each holding has its own page: its value over time, the change over the last year, its highest value, and its share of the household.
  • A holding owned by several people is split between them, by percentage or by amount. Each person sees their share, and the household total counts the holding once.
  • A deleted holding stays in an archive for 30 days and can be restored from there. The Overview puts the main figures on one page: household net worth, also shown in your other currencies, where the money is by category, each member's share, and the holdings that changed most.
