The short answer
A finance app holds the most private record a person keeps. Two questions decide whether it deserves to: what it needs from you to work, and what it does with what you give it.
An app that connects to your bank needs a standing way in, through a third party that keeps that access alive and sees everything that passes through it. An app that works from figures you enter needs nothing of the kind: it holds only what you typed, there is no connection to break, and nothing to reach your bank with. The price is a minute of typing. The return is a record that is always what you meant, in any country, with no one holding your keys.
The rest is what you can do with the record: see it only when you choose to, take it with you, and delete it without asking.
How Valunto does it
- Nothing connects to a bank or any other institution: the figures in Valunto are the ones you and your household enter.
- Amounts start hidden on every device and show with one tap, and can be hidden again whenever someone else can see the screen.
- A file you import is sent once to Anthropic to be read. Anthropic doesn't train on it and deletes it within 30 days, and Valunto doesn't keep the file.
- A report sent from the Help button carries a screenshot with every number and private name masked. Technical details go with it only if you leave them ticked.
- You can export your data (transactions as a spreadsheet, or your whole record as a JSON file), erase all your financial data while keeping your account, or delete your account.
- You sign in with a password or with a link sent by email. Settings lists the devices signed in to your account and can sign out any of them, or all at once.
